« AN OLD-TIME CRICKETER. By Tclosraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 21st November. The death is announced of Mr. H. t . F. Boyle, tho old-time cricketer. Henry Frederick Boylo was ono of the V pioneer band of Australian cricketers which visited England in 1878, and also a member ot four other colonial j elevens which toured the Ofd Country. He was very successful with the ball on English wickets, where his splendid - length and slight leg break caused him .- to be treated with great respect by the . best of batsmen. Associated with . Spofforth, . he. did some very fine performances, the two most notable, per- . haps, being when the pair dismissed the Marleybone Club team for 19 runs in , the second innings, Boyle securing the extraordinary figures of" six wickets for three runs, the "Demon" capturing four for 16; and again in the memorable 3 test game of. 1882, when Boylo was Spoft'or th's vis-a-vis, and bowled the last man, Peate. In the second innings of that game Boylo bowled twenty 21 overs (four balls an over) for eleven ' maidens, nineteen runs, three wickets. He actually headed the bowling avor- • ages with -the ISB2 team— perhaps tho greatest of ••all Australian sides—taking t 144 wickets for 16TJ0 runs ; average 1 11.6.
