PRESENTATION TO M. F. ALLEN.

«_» The- gathering of the Fire Underwriters' Association which took place yesterday afternoon -to make the presenta tion to 3ir. Frank Allen was a representative one. In making the presentation, Mr. GUI, the chairman of the Fire Underwriteis' Association, regretted that the age limit of the Commercial Assurance Company v.ns robbing them of one of their most respected members. Mr. Allen had had .1 long, and successful business career, and for many ye.'US he had taken a prominent part in association work. At the. present time lie was ohasynum of the Accident Association, and it was mainly duo to his tact and business qualifications tlr.it the work of Ill.lt association had been carried on so amicably and to Mich god resuits. Mr. Alien had by hia quiet iniostenlatiotts manner combined v, lth his business qualifications won tho admiration ami respect of all who know him. "Simplicity, sincerity, and mud work," continued the &petikc-r, weie j the avenues that had led to Mr. Allen's i buecess. The gathering joined heaitily in j wishing him happiness, and lo«g life in tho leisure (hub he had so well earned. Mr. Gill then handed to Mr. Allen a cheque and sovereign case, a description of which appealed in yesterday's issue. Mr. 13. A. Abctcrombie, president of tho New ZeaLuul Marine Vnderwriters Association, added .1 few word*, to Uie remarks of the previous speaker. Mr. Allen had been a man who was willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in trouble, and his loss would be felt by insurance companies all over New Zsalaml. Messrs. C. M. Montefiore, J. C. Ilanna, ■and C. A. Ewaii, also , endorsed the remarks of tlis previous speakers. Mr. Allen said it was perhaps tho biightost occasion of his life, and he felt proutl to be held in esteem by such men ac «cie piesent.
