« I NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. [BY TELKCBAPJt. — PKES3 ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 20lh September. At the golf tournament to-day the third round of the Amateur Championship was gone through. 'The result of the day's piny left Messrs. Burns, A. Duncan, K. Duncan, and Fisher in the championship. A good deal of attention was given to tho' meeting of A. Duncan (Wellington) find J. Harold (Wanganui). The game was won by the former with 6 up and 4to play. Both of these players started well. Duncan won the second hole, but lost the third, which made them all even. Duncan won the fourth, and with a lucky shot took the fifth in three, holing from the outside green. From this out Duncan gradually forged ahead and won. Another close and interesting game was witnessed in the Contest between K. Duncan and K. Tareiia (ex-champion). Atthe fourteenth hole they were level and at tho seventeenth Duncan was one up, the eighteenth hole being halved. Duncan won by the narrow margin of one up. E. Trevor Gould (Wellington) captured the bogie event, with 3 up on bogie. In the circumstances Mr. Gould's performanco was a highly creditablo one. He, however, stood out by himself, for the scores in this event were decidedly below the average. following aro the scores in the championship games : — Third round — Burns (Auckland) beat E. T. Gould (Wellington), 6 up and sto play ; A. Duncan (Wellington) beat J. Harold (Wanganui), 5 up and 4 to play; K. Duncan (Wellington) beat K. Tareiia (Napier), 1 up; A. H, Fisher (Otago) beat F. L. Gordon (Napier), 3 up and 1 to play. It is well known that "Erasmio" Soaps and Perfurao are of the hijjhest quality.— Advt.
