In the Assembly, Mr. Carruthers, the State Premier, in reply to numerous questions, stated that the House would be given an opportunity of fully discussing the applications of English settlers for farms here. 1 MR. CARRUTHERS DETERMINED. (Received September 21, 10.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Mr. Carruthers declared that the Government was determined to bring out immigrants. If the Opposition objected it could move a vote of censure. • SETTLEMENT IN THE NORTH. SYDNEY, This Day. The Bishop of Carpentaria, declares that it is absurd to suppose that Australia will be allowed to permanently block settlement in the north. Other nations, teeming with population, will object to the dog-in-the-manger policy which shuts out labour capable of developing the territory.
