It is said that only four per cent, of the' inmates of the insane asylums of the United Slates aro bloitdeS, and only two per cent, havo blue eyes. Figures obtained from sixty-eight asylums, located in nearly ovory State in the Union, and a few in Canada and England, show thnt the number of patients in these institutions is 16,512, of whom 703 have light hair, and only 66 led or auburn locks. In other words, ninety-six per cent, of the inmates are brunettes, with black or brown hnir, the latter in varying shades. In one asylum in New England thero is not a single inmate who is not a brunette. A peculiar feature about tho facts is that the percentage of thoso regarded as incurably insane is much greater among tho blondes than among Iho brunettes. The totals show that among the darkhaired inmates only fifty-three per cent, aro marked hopelessly insane, while among tho blondes oighby*ono per cent, aro put in thi» cntegory, and only three among the red-hnired patients escaped tho sumo classification. — San Francisco Argonaut.
