A special geueral meeting of the Wellington Club was held at the Occidental Hotel ln.it night to consider tho advisability of procuring practice wickets at the Athletic Park during the coining season Mr. W. J. Organ spoke in fuvour of the proposed change, on tho ground that the Basin Reserve wicket w,as not in a fit state to play on, and caused more harm thnn bonefll to tho plnyors who faced nny fast bowler on tho prtsent turf. Mr. A. T. Bate, the chairman, stated that tho outlay of £15 was small for the advantages to be gained by a good practice ground. Mr. M. F. Luckie admitted tho present pitch was bad, bub he was not prepared to support a motion to " cut tbfi painter " from the Basin Reserve, an the chnnces were probnblo that the club would not bo able to obtain a practice wicket on the Basin Reservo in the future if tho Athletic Park proposal did not prove practical.
