THE GOVERNMENT POLICY. COLLAPSE OF THE DEBATE. [mass association.] MELBOURNE, 9th September. The debato in tho ] louse of Representatives on the Government's policy came to a sudden termination. Sir William Lyne, said tho Premier (Mr Reid), was usurping a position he had no right to. Ho had achieved Iris end by machinations tho most disgraceful in tho history of politics. Sir William tlien called ftttenlioiv to tlio stale- of the House, with the ivsult that a count-out occurred. Mr. Reid, speaking on the matter after tho House adjourned, eaid ho did not know whether thoro was ajiy design in tho proceeding, but tlie members of tho Opposition had deprived themselves of tho opportunity of continuing their criticism of his polic3 r . If the count-out turned out to be a mcro accident, and the Leader of tho Opposition wi&hed tho debale, resumed, he would have no objection, but if it was dono designedly, tho motion would not be restored on tho Order Paper.
