A CO-OPERATIVE BAKERY FOR WELLINGTON.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir-rr-As an eye-witness at the meeting of the Co-oiDDrative Bakery on Monday night, I expected to see the hall well filled wiih interested heads of families, but, to my utter astonishment, only a few turned up, not even a dozen persons. What is the reason? The public are either very well satisfied, or else they want to see about 50 per cent, returned. A very short time back your columns were full of correspondence on the above subject. Now, why don't they step forward and give their helpV Perhaps they are tied,' as in the eases of other institutions, Now, Mr. Editor, if this bakery does not succeed, what will be the result? We will find those who made use of your valuable paper do the same thing; again.. It only requires the flour to be raised a pound or two per ton, which, if I .am npt mistaken, it will be before long. We get almost all our supplies from the South, and see the quantity that is being exported every week out of the colony. Now, I say again, if the public let this chance go by it will serve them right if the bakers of this city of ours make them pay ihrough the nose for it, because they wilt defy co-operation. In several parts of this colony co-opera-tive bakery stores can -he worked. Why not here V —l am, etc., Left Wing. Wellington, 10th May, 1899.

The Anti-Gambling League will hold a meeting in the Exchange Hall on Tuesday next. One of Ihe resolutions to be moved will deal with the lelalions between the churches and gambling.
