OUR DEFENCE FORCES.
It has now been definitely arranged to Rive the "Wellington No. 2 Battalion Rifle Volunteers a field day at Marton ou the Prince of TTales's Birthday. The Marton, Feilding, Palmei>ton North, and Wanganui '.Rifles will take pail in it. The forenoon will be devoted to attack and defence work, for which purpose the battalion will be divided ; md the ahernoon will be taken up with battalion drill. Pree railway passes have been granted to all corps along tlie live travelling by the early morning trains, and the men will receive 2s 6d for the forenoon, and a similar allowance for the afternoon drills if three-lourths of their corps are actually present. Sergt.-Major Finn has intimated his Intention of reading a piper on ''Fire Discipline—What il, Means, and its Uses," at the meAng of the Non-Commissioned Officers' Club this day fortnight. The paper will contain great amount of up-to-date information. A watch i? to be presented annually to the lioys' Institute Cadets by Mr. J. H. Robinson, of Willis-street. A parade of th« Kelburne Rifles is advertised lor Tuesday evening, after which the corps will hold a meeting to elect an officer vice Mr. M'Donald, resigned*
