FOOTBALL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir — Being a constant reader of your valuable paper, and nolicflig a letter signed by " Ex-St. Pat,," I wish to contradict a few of his statements rethePoneke-St. Patrick's football match. In the first place, ho slates that the game was a very brutal one. Was not the referee there to see fair play, and not the said spectator ? " Ex-St. Pat." says that the rough play was all on the Poneke side, but what about when our half-back took a mark, and the whistle had sounded fully three seconds when two College players knocked him down, and the game had to be stopped for four or five minutes ? Then, again, one of our three-quarters is still incapable of attending to his work. I' am, &c, Playeb, Wellington, Bth June, 1898.
