VOLUNTEER MARCH.
Dedicated to the Zealandia Eifles, Wellington, New Zealand. [Foe the Post.] We march and sing to the whistling note, Of the messengers made of lead, Re-echo the song of the guns afloat Which lay in the deep their dead. Hurrah for New Zealand's dark-blue flag 1 , Hurrah for the Union Jack. Blessings be on the gallant rag That leads the British attaok. Wo fear no reckless foes that dare, To lay our birthright low Zealandia's steel knit arm will bare In rage for the mortal blow. We love our sunlit fern-tree glen, We love our Tui's home, We love as brothers our fellow men But as Britons we mean to roam. We hate the tyrant's harsh command, We hate the servile crew Who bend to the dust and kiss the hand That is neither just nor true. Hurrah for the men of endless fame Who bled for the Fatherland. Hurrah for the men who do the same On the soil whereon we 'stand. To arms ! To arms ! My colonials brave, When the watch-fires light the gloom. Our Empire's honour we'll strive to save ISo matter if deathly doom. Peace is the watchword we would give. For aye, and aye,'and aye. But freedom and honour with us must live And no one shall say us nay. W, H. Babeow. Wellington, 7th June, 1898.
