EDUCATION BOARD.

« The Education Board met this morning> Present — Messrs. J. R. Blair (Chairman)W. W. M'Cardle, J. Young, F. Bradey, J. Robertson, and E. Feist, and Messrs. A. W Hogg and W. C. Buchanan, M.H.R.'s. Mr. Robertson was appointed to sign cheques, and Mr. Feist was elected a member of the Technical School Committee. Accounts amounting to £4221 17s were passed for payment. The reports of the Inspectors were laid on the table. On the whole, the Chairman said, these were of a satisfactory character, and there was nothing out of the common in them. Mr. Douglas Beddingfield, of Paikakariki, was granted one months' leave of absence, and Miss Mary Graves, of Alfredton, six months'. The application of Mr. Flux for an increase of salary was not acceded to, the request being contrary to the regulations. The question of baths in the school ground at Riutoul-street was deferred in order to obtain further information. Mr. Welstead was appointed pupil teache] at Cross Creek. Minor works were ordered in respect ol the Kaiwaiwai, Paraparaumu, Pahautanui. and Kaitawa schools. It was decided to take the necessary steps to obtain a site ou which to build a school at Alfredton. Mr. Edward Look made application for extra remuneration while acting as first assistant at Petone. Some discussion took place on this subject, and eventually the request was refused. A deputation comprising Messrs. C. Wilson, M.H.R., and A. Fullford, waited upon the Board requesting that the removal of the school at Vogeltown should take place during the winter holidays. The Chairman pointed out that according to the Board's expert the work could not be done in the time allowed by the holidays, and it would require* the school being closed for a month. Mr. Fullford said the local church could be obtained for the time that the school was closed. It was decided to postpone the matter till next meeting, by which time the desires of householders concerned will be known.
