[orjK OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Carterton, This Day. The boring operations for artesian water at Taratahi are still going on, and have reached a depth of 280 feet. A small stratum of clay, 4 feet iv depth, was met with at 269 feet. The bore is now passing through a conglomerate which is impervious to water, and most difficult to bore through. Masterton, This Day. The attention of the Crown Prosecutor is to be drawn to the case of a bankrupt named John M'Gann, who is alleged to have gone into the Grassendale Hotel as a dummy, and allowed debts to be contracted in his name. In the District Court this morning a bankrupt named Crawford was publicly examined. Counsel for the Deputy- Assignee stated that the Crown Prosecutor had certified to the prosecution of Gilbert M'Candlish, bankrupt, for alleged fraudulent preference. The appeal case of Searl v. Sergeant M'Ardle, the law points of whioh were lately referred to the Supreme Court, was dismissed with £3.3s costs.
