DEPARTURE OF THE NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTATIVES.

A large crowd assembled on the wharf on Saturday evening to witness the departure of the New Zealand representative team by the Hauroto. The " reps." were given a very hearty send-off, and enthusiastic cheers and counter-cheers from the spectators were interm ingled with the team's war cry. A large number of the Permanent Force were also present to say good-bye to genial Tom Pauling. Shortly before the steamer started on her way oceanwards to Australia Mr. I. Hyams (manager) received telegrams from the Southland and Canterbury Unions wishing the team success. If ordinary weather is met with on the voyage, the Now Zealanders should arrive in Sydney on Thursday morning. The first big match of the tour is Ret down for Saturday, when the New South Wales reps, will do battle with our men. It is stated that one or two members of the New Zealand team are not likely to return, notably M'Kenzie, who has inducements to take up his residence in Queensland,
