BOWLING.
The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Newtown Bowling Club on Monday states that the green has been in good order, and the club has held a satisfactory position in the several competitions in whioh it has been engaged. It took second place in the inter-club matches for the Northern Bdwliug Association's Banner, and was also second in the Pennant matohes between the three local clubs. It was successful in five out of the fix matches played during the season for the Edwin Feathers. Valuable prizes were given by the President (Mr. Danks), by Mr. G. Dennis, and by the Dewar Whisky Company, which were won by Mr. Bary, Mr. Brakenridge, and Mr. Blyth respectively. The Subscription Pairs match was won by Messrs. Davies and Blyth. There are 60 shareholders, and 40 can be looked upon as active members. The expenditure has been on much the same scale as that of last year, and may be considered as fairly representing what fe necessary for efficient maintenance ; but as tha total income is about £31 less, and the subscriptions received are about £47 less than the corresponding figures for last year the result' is that the credit balance has been reduced to a merely nominal amount. While "the ultimate prosperity of the club is assured by the faot of the strikingly rapid increase which is taking place in the population ef this part of the city, the directors are of opinion that the income upon which they can depend with the present membership and rate of subscription is insufficient to carry on the business of the club as it should be carried on, and it is therefore their intention to propose such an amendment of the articles of association as will make the subscription 30s per annum instead of 20s.
