Ho said it had beon reported abont that because he was a Thorndon man other parts of the city would suffer if he was elected, bnt he reminded them that he was only a member for Thorndon Ward when he induced the City Council to make Newtown Park. A plebiscite of the citizens should be taken on the question of the establishment of public marketa ; the present proposal of the Council was ridiculous. In reply to a question, Mr. Fisher said he was the author of tho Home for the Aged Needy. In 1&82 he agitated the matter for a whole year. Then the late Mr. Joßeph Bnrne gave him .£IOOO toward the erection of the building, the late Mr. W. H. Levin following with i! 250 After many struggles to get a site the building was put up. Tbe name of Mr. Geo. Fisher, however, waa not on the marble memorial tablet. On the motion of Mr. Maepherson, seconded by Mr. Capper, a unanimous vote of confidence waa passed. Mr. Fisher speaks at Thomas' Hall this evening, when he will touch on tbe Town Hall question, with speoial reference to the offer of an organ for such an institution.
