RIFLE CLUB SHOOTING.

The Petone Rifle Club fired on Saturday for Dr. Newman's and Mr. C. W. Brown's trophieß, this being the first competition in which the aggregates count for the championship of the olub. Last year's champion, R. C. Kirk, -came out top with 89 out of a possible 105, while others were well up. The principal scores were : — R. 0. Kirk, sor, 89; W. H. Ballingbr, sor, 88; C. Hollard,* Bor, 87 ; A. BalHngep, sor. S3 : H. ARaven, scr, 81; B. R. Bunny, 3, 80; W. Edlin,* 6, 80. *Previous winners. R. C. Kirk obtains a leg-in for Dr. Newman's trophy, and W. H. Ballinger one for Mr. C. W. Brown's. The ranges were 500, 600, and 700 yards. The Karori Rifle Club hold its usual weekly competition on Saturday for trophies presented by Messrs. Bulkley and Lewer. The ranges were 200 and 300 yardß, 6-inch bull, and 500 yardß ; 7 shots at each distance. Burns and Woodger secured legs-in for the respective trophies. The following are the highest scores :— J. Burns, 85 ; T. Woodger, 80 ; H. Palmer, 77 ; F. Lisjington, 75 ; J. Murphy, 75. On Saturday the Upper Hutt Rifle Club held competitions for Messrs. Orr &, Lodder's and T. M. Wilford's trophies, at 600 and 700 yards, J. Till getting a leg-in for the former and J. M'Whinney, a promising young shot, a leg-in for the hitter. The following are the highest scores :— First Class— J. Till, 42; F. Wilkie, 38; F. Whiteman, 35. Second Class— J. M'Whinney, 46; G. Bnrrell, 39; J. Bayer, 33 ; C. Kawaon, 28.
