Tho Mayor oxplaincd that the matter had boon practically sottlod by tho Public Works Committee, but as it scorned dcsirablo that a special mooting of tho Council should bo called to finally don.l with tho mattorj ho had called mombers together at tho earliest opportunity. Tho following recommendations from tho Public Works Committee wero road:— l. That tho designs bo aubinittcd to a committoo of threo gontlomon, with tho roquoat that they will solcot tho throo best designs. 2. Tliat tho following gentlemon bo requested to act on such committeo : — Tho Hon. E. Richardflon, Mr. W. Ferguson, and tho City Snrvoyor. Tho Mayor, in moving tho adoption of tho report, said that Councillors wore awaro of tho stops which had led up to tho proparation of tho roport. The recommendations woro not oxaotly in accordance ' with hiu own views, as ho had boon ftniiouft that tho Counoil should soloot Sit doaigns and refer thorn to t\ ttbmmitteo, but as it was tho desire of tho majority that tho wholo of tho dosignn shonld go before the committee ho would not oppose Tho motion for the adoption of tho roport was socondod by Councillor Moollor and agrood to.
