A public meeting has been called by Mr. J. Lnndon, to be held on Saturday next, to consider .the statements made in the House by the Minister of Lands in respect to the village settlement scheme. The Auckland Poultry, Pigeon, Canary, and Dog Association opened their annual show to day. The exhibition is more successful than in previous year?. Dunkdin, 26th July. The insuranoe on C. B. Miller's bakehouse and store was .£550, all in the South British office. At the Police Court to-day, two milkmen were fined £3 for adulterating milk with water. Another case was disoharjjed, as the boy stated that some cream had been taken off when the constable procured the milk. James Knight, licenseo of the Maitland Hotel, was fined iJIO and costs for permitting dice to be thrown, and his ljcenso was endorsed. For selling after hours he was fined £2 and ooßts, but so that ho would not lose his license the second conviction was not endorsed, At a meeting of the Harbour Board today it was reported that the Fifeshire went o^t oyer the bar drawing 24ft, and on Wednesday there was 31ft at high water.
