He was never prominent at any time during the race. For the A-J-C. Derby, Abercorn is first favourite at 6to 4 against. For tho Metropolitan, Cardigan and Morok head the list at 5 to 1 against each.

We take the following items from the Referee, to hand on Saturday i— A private oablo received in Cbristohurch from Melbourne on Wednesday intimated that Jebusite had been backed for a lot of money for the double of V.R.C. Derby and Melbourne Cup, and at the time of cabling was as good a favourite as anything for the Melbourne Cup at 100 to 5. Jebusite is entered fpr iha Melbourne Cup in the name of Mr. J. Cohen, who is a Melbourne bookmaker, and for the V.R.C. Derby he figures in the nomination of his trainer, Mr. T. Oojjfey. Jebusjte'a weight ip the Melboumo Cup is Oat 31b, and he is by Parriwell (winner of the Melbourne Cup of 1879) out of Tyropeß.n, who won the Newmarket Handicap of 1888. A bit of wagering to small amounts has boon transacted during the past week, though nothing sensational has to be recorded. Locbiel still oontinues to be backed for small sums at 100's to 12, and is firm at the head of affairs at that price. Nelson and Torrent follow him in the quotations at 100 to 10, despite the fact of tho former having, if anything, shown increased symptoms of lameness during the last few days. That Artillery is not quite knocked out after his recent accident is evident from the faot that the layers will not spring a point more than 100 to 8 about him, but Silonoe is docidedly easier, and 100 to 6 can be easily prooured. Derwenter is less firm also, but Lorraine is showing a tendency to harden in tho market, otherwise there is no ohange to roport. It will be seen by our stud news in this issue that Frailty, the dam of Trenton and Niagara, has prodnced a filly to Nordenfeldt; Pulohra, the dam of Lady Evelyn and St. Clair, has dropped a colt to the same sire ; and Mata's dam, Raupo, has a colt to the Doncaster horse, St. Leger. Niagara has been sora.tcbed for all New Zealand engagements, Mr. E. 8. B, Bell is to act as secretary of the newly-formed Plumpton Park Raoing Club in Christchurch. The club have already issued the programmo of an initial meeting' of Thursday, the 22nd inst. A totalisator permit has been granted.
