THIS DAY.
The Speaker took the chair at 2 30 p.m. Sir George Grey presented a petition from a Mr. Garrard, a candidate for Auokland City West, prayirg for compensation on account of having been wrongfully imprisoned on a oharge of personation. Mr. Sheehan moved that the petition be read. Mr. Turnbull objected, the petition being addressed to the hon. member for Auckland East instead of to the Speaker. The motion, however, was oarried, but subsequently rescinded. Mr. Fulton gave notice of his intention to ask the Government what steps were being taken to close the cemetery at Wellington. Mr. Fulton notified his intention of asking the Government whether they intended to give effect to the recommendation of the Petitions Committee in reference to the petition of Mrs. Maneford in June last, viz., that the Government should insist on officers of the service hsuiing their lives equal to not less than one year's pay.
