EXECUTION OF A NIHILIST. [SPECIAL TO MELBOURNE AGE AND AEGENTS.] London, 7th March.
The second reading of the Deceased Wife's Sister Bill has been carried by an immense majority in the Canadian House of Commons. Ghina is preparing heartily for war. The Russian difficulty is the principal cause. Poladierakyj who attempted to assassinate Genferal Melikoff, was hanged on the sth, outside St. Petersburg, in presence of an immense cdncourge df spectators. When interrogated as td his accomplices, the prisoner firmly refused to afford the authorities any information. He Was escorted from the gaol to the gallows by a strong force of military and police, as an attempt to rescue was apprehended. During the execution disturbances occurred for some time, and an emeute seemed imminent, but the police having apprehended the ringleaders, order was restored. St. Petersburg is in a state of Beige, and all forms of law are set aside. The Pall Mall Gazette approves of the selection of Mr. Service as Mr Berry's successor, and declares him, judging from Mb speeches and his scheme of Constitutional reform, to be in reality a sound and vigorous Liberal.
