STATEMENTS DENIED.
Mr Hiram Hunter, Labour candidate for Mid-Canterbury, opened his speech at Ashburton on Saturday | night by denying the statements he ! ! alleged his supporters had heard that
he had come into the contest to split the vote —in point of fa^t, that he had been paid to do just that. "I am one of the founders of the New Zealand Eabour movement, and neither I nor my supporters or the Hon. David Jones or his supporters would consider such a thing. It is a dirty statement that has been circulated."
