EXPORT LAMBS

DISTRICT COMPETITIONS.

PROMOTED BY MEAT BOARD

With a view to still further improving the quality of the Dominion's lambs, and also educating farmers as to the requirements of the Home trade, the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board is inaugurating a competition amongst the different districts throughout the Dominion.

The two Islands have been divided into suitable districts and the local A. and P. Associations in each district are to be the contralling bodies in connexion with the competition. The Meat Board is offering a perpetual challenge shield for the best district display of lambs from the North Island, and also a perpetual challenge shield for th best district display of lambs from the South Island. , The Board is also offering special prizes for the best individual lots of lambs shipped from the North Island, and similar prizes for the best individual lots of lambs shipped from the South Island. Each pen entered for the competition is to consist of three lambs, and entries from each farmer are limited to not more than two pens of lambs.

The lambs in the North Island are to be killed not late rthan 15th December, and the lambs in the South Island must be killed not later than 31st January. The Board has suggested that when th lambs are killed a "field day" might be organised at the local freezing works in order to enable afrmers to see the carcases of lambs after they are killed and compare the quality.

The lambs are then to c shipped Home, where the LoLndon manager of the Board will arrange for special displays and judging. This will afford an excellent opportunity for advertising the Dominion's best quality lambs on the Smithfield market. The full conditions of the scheme have been drawn up by the Meat Board, and are now in th hands of the various A. and P. Associations. These bodies are giving the scheme their whole-hearted support and co-opera-tion.
