BARBIE'S BIRTHPLACE
LONDON C.A. BUYS KUUUEMUIR LANDMARK. For the second time within a year or two the birthplace of Sir James Barrie, in Buchin road, Kirriemuir, has changed hands (states the 'Observer ’). The property, including the tenement in which Barrie was born, and the tiny washhouse at the rear, which was his first “ theatre,” was purchased some time ago from a local mill proprietor by Major R. 1). Lauder, a London Scot. Major Lauder a week or two ago placed the property in the market, and, through his solicitor, gave the Town Council of Kirriemuir the first option to purchase, but the provost intimated that the council had no power to buy, though he expressed willingness, if there was a public desire, to acquire the building, to call a meeting of townspeople to discuss raising the necessary fund. A few days ago Mr bacon Threlford, C.A.. who lives at Princes Gate, London, visited Kirriemuir, and, after inspecting the property, made arrangements for purchasing. Mr Threlford, though not a Scot, has been a frequent visitor to Kirriemuir, and is an enthusiast regarding Barrie and his works. It is understood that Mr Threlford has expressed the hope that arrangements may lx? made for Barrie’s birthplace being acquired by the nation .
