The Government supporters have answered to the application of the party Whips since Monday's oauous, ai.d with the exception of plaomg the item feDciDgwire on the free list—when the country members voted solid—those who were inclined a wee* ago to fciok over the traces in the matter of tariff reform blindly followed the Treasurer's lead.
When the Bill is reoommitted this afternoon a further attempt will be made to remove the duty on fresh fruits. For over a week members have been absolved from attending the select oom~ mittees, owing to thu late eitiings of the House, much to the disgust of the patties summoned to give evidence, or having petitions to be considered. Messrs Finn and Bees oame down from Qisborno several days ago to appear before the Native Atfaird Committee as counsel, but there has been no meeting of the Committee, with the result that they have had to kick their heela about the streets of Wellington.
