The management open tho rink on Saturday mornings for the school children, who are prevented from attending except on that day. There will be a ono mile handicap raco on next Thursday, tho nominations of which close on Wednesday night. On Saturday night a large crowd of peoplo assembled at tho Hastings railway station to welcome back Captain Russoll, by the 8 o'clock train from Wellington. On the train steaming up to the platform the Hastings Brass Band struck up " God Save tho Queen." Tho Volunteers were drawn up iv order under Lieutenant McLcod and Sub - Lieutenant Hansen. On Captain Russell stepping on to tho platform he was loudly cheered. The Captain, in a short speech, thanked those present for the honor thoy had done him, and after another cheer, tho crowd departed.
