PROPOSED SALT-WATER BATH IN HARDINGE-STBEET.

It has been in contemplation foe some time past amongst a number of geutlemea residing in the western part of the city to establish in a convenient Bituation in that neighbourhood a salt-water bath with sufficient depth of water for bathing when the tide is out. After examining the beach it was found that a bay abutting on the lower end of Hardioge-atreet would be the most suitable site for the purpose, and a plan "of the work which would be required to complete the bath was prepared by Mr. T, B. Gameioo, from which it would appear that, were a wall constructed between the two oute most points of the bay, it would give a bath 100 feet ia length by 50 in width, the 5.13. and W. sides being enclosed by the cliff. The plan as propured by Mr. Cameron provides for a strong sea wall 5 feet G inches high, built double of rough blue stone, pitch-faced, each wall 2 feet thick at the bottom, aud 1 feet 6 inches at the top, a space o£ 1 feet 6 iuches to be allowed between the Yr»Us, which is to be filled with good day puddle. The wall is to be tiuibhpd on the top with a stone coping its full width by 9 inches thick, with a wooden rail on the top 2 feet 5 inches higb. A flood gate 2 fett 6 inches wide ia to be built in the centre of the wall, and the who'e bath excavated 15 inches, with a curreut to the beach to allow of cleaning. It is proposed to cut the rocks on the S.K. and S.W. straight down, in order to allow greater room for swimming. The dreasing-rooms are to be 5 feet 6 inchaa deep, 4 feet 6 inches wide, and 6 feet 6 inches high, and the entrance to the bath will be by a strong ladder from the foot of Hardinge-sttcet. At high tide the depth of waW withiuths bath would be 8 feet; at the sea wall, and 5 feet at tho inner edge. The total cost of the work is e&tiniatad at £400. It is proposed, however, to make some modification on this plan by reducing tho height of the retaining w*U, so as to allow of a depth -of 4 feet 6 inches only at low water, by which means a considerable' saving might be made upon the expense of the undertaking. Last evening a meeting of gentlemen interested in the foundation of the bath was convened by circular to be hold at the Star Hotel, but only a few persons attended. Mr. Brophy was called to the chair, and after some discussion, On the motion of Mr. Thomson, seconded by Mr. Symonds, Messrs. Hesketb, Brophy, and Akerswere appointed a committee to wait on his Honor tb» Superintendent, and if possible to obtain a grant of the site for the batb, and report their proceeding! to a future meeting which was to be oalled for the purpose. , , vote of thanks was returned to the Ch&irmau, after which the meeting adjourned, >
