POLICE COURT.— Friday. [Before T. Beckham, Esq., R.M.]
DRUNKENNESS. Thomas Jackson, charged with the above offence, was mulcted in the usual penalty or alternative:
LUNATIC. John Bible, a person recently arrived here from Tahiti, was, on the evidence of Drs. Fierce and Nicholion, declared of unsound mind, and unfit to be at large, and ordered to be confined in the Lunatic Asylum.
BREACH OF MUNICIPAL POLICE ACT. John Western was charged, on the information of Constable McCleary, with a breach of the 5th section of the Auckland Municipal Police Act, by riding Mb horse on the footpath in Shortland-street. Mr. James Russell appeared for the defendant, and admitted the offence, but said bis olient was not aware of the law, and was spoken to in a very insolent manner by the police-eonstable. The Bench imposed a fine of 5s., and 11s. 6d. coiti.
LARCENY. William McMullins was charged with stealing from the whooner 'Mary Ann White,' in Auckland
harbour, on the 18th insfc., a silver watch and ctuiD, value £4 15s , the property of Frank Gomez. Prisoner admitted the charge, aod was sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour. The Court then rose.
