Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., dealt with tenement cases, most of them being adjoumHugh Lloyd, for whom Mr. E. Beere appeared, sought to secure possession of a dwelling m the occupation of Mrsi Melinan. represented by Mr. P. W. Jackson. The plaintiff said that he was a married man but had no children. Ho bought tho house at tho beginning of October, and about the. middle of than month he saw the defendant, she having previously had notice to quit, and tried to come to an arrangement' wiilli hor. She a6ked permission to remain until about the end of November, and plaintiff agreed to this. The eitended.period expired on November 22, and on tho following day plaintiff saw the defendant who asked for a further extension of six weeks, which would carry her over Christmas. He pleaded for possession, pointed out that he was paying 365. for board, and went further, and was instrumental m getting tho defendant an opportunity of taking, a house in Hanson Street, but she declined to take this place stating than it was too far away. Ihe defendant' said sho had six children, but most of them were grown up. She bad two boarders, who would probably have left her had she gone to Hanson Street. Eventually the Magistral adjourned tho case for a week to enable the defendant to inspect a nine-roomed house which was under offer to her. BY-LAW CASES. j For depositing sand in Aro Street; and! failing to plncc a danger-light in position. Frank Burke was fined 10s. and 7s. costs. Lan Duncan was fined 10s. and 7s. costs for having no light on his motor-car. For failing to stop his motor-car when ; requested to do ao by a constable on point duty, Harold B. Grey, of New Plymouth, was fined 10s. and' 9s. costs. , Max Wall was fined 40s. and costs 7s. for driving his motor-car at an excessive speed in a city street.
