BRITAIN'S WAR BILL
INCREASES EXPLAINED
PENSIONS BILL NOW £250,000 PER WEEK (Rec. June 2G, C.lO p.m.) London, June 25. In the House of Commons, Mr. Bonar Law (Chancellor of the Exchequer), dealing with tho war expenditure, stated that the increase in the Army expenditure was partly attributable to the payments which ultimately would lie recoverable. The expenditure on munitions
had bsen affected by temporary causes, such as more rapid delivery of orders. He feared that tho expenditure on these items would exceed tho estimate. JJo(jarding the loans to our Allies, tho Imperial Government was still liablo during tho opening weeks of tho current jear to fulfil commitments undertaken before the entrv of tho United States.
The advantage of the latter's entry was now being felt. pensions now totalled a quarter of a 1 million weekly, and would continue to expand.—Renter.
