COUNTRY'S OFFER.
TWO THOUSAND MORE MEN. The spirit of the mounte'd special constables is shown by a telegram making an offer of 2000 more men if they are required, dispatched by mounted men at present in Wellington to Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P. The following is the text of the telegram: — "We, the undersigned special constables, representing the following districts, wish you to bring under the notice of the_ Prime Minister that we are hero in Wellington to see a final and definite settlement of the present commer- ■ cial disturbance. Wo came here to preserve peace and order, but wo aro prepared to take sterner measures if necessary, and if the present force is not- sufficient we guaranteo to land 2000 troopers in Wellington within a week, reprcsentinc the AVairarapa, Hnwke's Bay, Taranaki; Manawatu, Eangitikei, and AVanganui districts.'' . To this telegram Mr. Wilkinson sent the following reply:—"Duly, delivered your telegram to the Prime Minister, wlio was pleased to receive same. He hopes that better counsels will prevail, and that industrial peace will be ensured in the near future, so that it will not be necessary to avail himself_ of your offer. If, however, there is difficulty in maintaining Jaw and order, your offer of further men will bo gladly availed of."
