Acting oil a petition by twelve of the leading Japanese merchants in Sydney tho Acting-Consul-Oreneral for Japan has'written'to Mr. Orchard, the joweller, requesting the withdrawal of his advertisement which is displayed at railway stations, and on tho trams, depicting a fearsome-looking Japanese soldier, extending his hand with olutcliing fingers over Australia.
The advertisement bears the legend: "Australians I Watch yourselves. At Orchard's." '
Tho word "watch" was a pun. Mr. Orchard's manager has agreed to withdraw the advertisement.
