MIRAMAR COUNCIL.

The Mayor (Mr. F. Tttwnsend) presided at last- night's monthly meeting of the Miramar Council, Dr. Edith Huntley, the newly-elected member, making the ftatutory declaration on taking office. The Mayor, in welcoming Dr. Huntley, said that she Was'their first lady councillor, and congratulated her on he.r- success at the election. He expressed his belief that slio would make as goad a councillor as ono of the male sex, and hoped that she would never regret her associations with the councillors, whose co-operation lie promised her. I.t was decided that Dr. Huntley should be placed on the committees of which Councillor Kelford was a member. A deputation attended from the Miramar Municipal Brass Band asking that an agreement should be drawn up with regard to tho instruments purchased a year ago at a cost of £363. This amount has to lie paid in three years,- and it was . agreed thai when half the" amount has been collected the council pay the other, half. So far £84 has boen collected.

Mr. F. Black, M. Inst. C.1., Wellington, wrote promising to revise his former report relating to electric lighting and power supply, and to supply information ns to the probable amount required to pay tho eitv for taking over the property of the lattes 1 within the borough. He also noted that the council had accepted his recommendation to apply for a license, and promised to prepare a draft to be forwarded to the Pi.blie Works Department with the council's application.

A deputation also attended from Seatoun Amateur Athletic Club asking the council to tlx up Seatoun Park by cutting tho grass and rolling tho ground, as the club was endeavouring to get tho American athletes to visit Seatoun Park towards tho end of the year. The council 'consented to this request. The Public Works Committee reported that only two tenders had been received for the erection of the firo brigade station at Miramar, and .that the engineer considered the prices oxeessivo. The council therefore decided to carry out the work by day labour.,
