November o, 9.45 p.m.) Launceston, November 5. ■ At the resumod inquest on tho body of the girl Margaret Ledwell, who was found brutally murdered in a lonely spot in tho Deloraine district; the deceased's sister (a girl of thirteen) gave evidence that Margaret had said she would not pass tho place where Bolbin worked. Belbin seemed to go everywhere she went,'and she was afraid of him. '
Another girl (aged 6irfeen) gave similar evidence.'
Detective Mansfield, in. his evidenco, said |hat Belbin made a statement in winch ho said that 'he found tho girl's body, with her brains blown out. Subsequently Belbin made a second statement, in which ho said that he put his arm round deceased's shoulder to get a kiss. He was holding his gun in his right hand, and she said: "Mind tho gun," and pushed it. 1 At the same time she turned away. Then the gun went off, killing her. . Sergeant Dwan gave evidence, that. Belbin made a similar confession to him.
