CANADA'S MAIL SUBSIDIES.
In subsidies to steamship companies, tho Canadian Government will pay this year 2,328,500d015. For this sum the mails are carried free, and freight and passenger service maintained on the ocean and coastal routes for tho development of foreign and domestic trade. Under the now contract made this year, the Government is paying one million dollars annually for a tri-weekly trans-Atlantic service performed by 12 steamships, instead of GOO.OOOdoIs. ft year for a weekly service by l'our steamships as formerly. The now contract is with four companies —tho Allan, the Canadian Pacific Hailwav, tho Canadian Northern, and the White Star Lines
