In the Legislative Council — Hon. ,T. E Jenkinson moved, without notice, the suspension of the Standing Orders to allow the proceedings of the Banking Committee to be reported, but as objection was taken to the motion as a surprise it was not carried. The Coroners Bill and Municipal Corporation Act Amendment Bill passed their final stagps. In Committee on the Criminal Code Act Amendment Bill the clause raising the age of consent to 16 years was passed without division, but the clause providing that prosecutions for criminal assault muse be commenced within .two months of the alleged act was struck out by 24 to 5, the time within which such prosecutions may. be brought being left at one month as at present. The bill was reported with amendments. In the House of Representatives — After questions had been replied to, Mr T. Mackenzie moved the adjournment of the House, to refer to the action of Hon. Mr Cad man in refusing the same concessions to the Owaka district that wero extended to the Southland district in the matter of special facilities for the conveyance of timber. — Hon. Mr Oadman said he could not comply with the Request asked for. Hon. Mr Hall-Jones moved the second reading of the Railways Compensation Adjustment Bill, to give effecc to certain arrange jients made with the Borough of Balclutha relating to land taken for the purpose of the Waitaki-.Bluff railway. — Agreed to. The Gold Duties Act Amendment Bill was read a third time and passed. Hon. J. M'Kenzie moved the second reading of the Noxious Weeds Bill, to prevent the spread of noxious weeds and to enforce the trimming of hedges'. — After a number of members had spoken the debate was adjourned. In the evening Hon. Mr Seddon delivered the Financial Statement, which took two hours to read, and was agreed that the debate on the statement be commenced on Friday provided parties were then ready for it, and, if not, theu on Tuesday.
