RODEO AT NEW BRIGHTON
' ♦ '■•; ■ , SOME EVENTS BLOCKED BY POLICE Both the police and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals intervened and deleted some of the events which had been planned for a rodeo held near the Bower Pndge, New Brighton, on Saturday. Th' odeo, half of the. proceeds from wL..i are to go to patriotic funds, was organised by Mr H; Hills. ‘ . The police stopped the holding- of pony trots and hack races as, they said, the 'organiser had not taken out the required permit for them, and the society’s inspector (Mr D. J. White) refused to allow the steer-riding contest, which, he said, was contrary to the law. A special feature of the programme was a buck jumping exhibition in which R. Register, the rider, was not unseated. Pony buck jumping and’ a buck-jumping contest were also: held. Results of other events were:—Heavy hacks; Miss Shirley Holden 1, Miss Nola East 2, R. Hamson 3; ponies, Betty Campbell 1, Joan Campbell 2.
