SOLDIERS HONOURED AT SUMNER
A social and dance was held in the Sumner Town Hall in honour of soldiers of the borough. The Sumner Returned Soldiers’ Association organised the function, and Mrs Ledsham and a party from Christchurch contributed items,, Mr F. Vincent being the pianist. A presentation was made to each man, the DeputyMayor (Mr F. Eldridge) wishing them good luck and a safe return. The Sumner Lawn Tennis Club also took the opportunity to make a presentation to Bombardier C. H. Francis, who had been the club’s treasurer. Mr E. T. Chitty, the president of the Sumner branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, wished the men the best of luck and every success. The men were:—Sergeant-Major J. Williamson, Sergeant F. Malley. Bombardier C. H. Francis, Privates A. Stace and R. C. Hamilton.
