WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH Mrs Duff presided at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union held this week. Members brought gifts for the Christmas party to be held earTy next month. A coin party was held to augment the funds for the country queen, Mrs I. L. M. Coop Miss Selby, who returned from England a few months ago, gave an interesting talk on Land Army work in England. A letter was read from the Lady Galway Guild thanking members for a parcel of clothes sent to the depot. Hostesses at the tea hour were Mcsdamcs Mason and Roper, and Miss Watson. BELFAST Mrs Brown presided at the monthly meeting of the Belfast branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers Union. Competitions resulted: Wheatmeal scones Mrs Brown; something new from something old, Mrs Chapman 1, Mi Brown 2; rose. Mrs Brown 1, Mrs Barrow 2; small bloom, MrsBrown 1, Mrs Murfitt 2. GOVERNOR’S BAY-ALLANDALE The monthly meeting of the Governor’s Bay-Allandale branch of the ! Women’s Division of the Farmers Union was held at the home of Mrs Dimes (Governor’s Bay). Mrs Greig welcomed a large number of members and friends, the secretary reported that £2 7s 3d had been handed in towards Christmas cheer for lepers at Makogai. During the social hour, Mrs Small read the story of Mrs Phipps from “Brave Days.’’ The subject was of particular interest to members, as Mrs Phipps's first home stood close to the home of Mrs Dimes. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE The annual inspection of the St. John Ambulance Brigade was held at headquarters. Peterborough street, on Wednesday evening. About 382 members of aH ranks, including the brigade band, attended. The inspection was carried out by Major J. W. Crampton, Assistant-Com-missioner. assisted by Mrs M. Cordy and Sergeant-Major F. Rudd. District Superintendents, Mrs A. Fricker, Mrs M. Gay, and Mr J. Dickson, district officers, Miss R. Ferguson, Miss L. Butler, Miss I. Worthington, Messrs P. Wentworth. G. Dunlop, and A. Evans, corps officers. After the inspection, A.R.P. certificates were presented by the assistant commissioner. Mrs D. Pearce and Miss E. Brown contributed solos, and the programme concluded with supper and dancing SOCIAL AT SPRINGSTON There was a large attendance at a dance and flag “500” social held in the Springston Hall. Proceeds will be given to the Sunshine Club. | Music was supplied by Stewart's Band, and extras were played by Miss | M. Mills. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss A. Tyson and Mr L. Ridden Mr J. Mitchell was master of ceremonies. Successful card players were Mr and Mrs Payne and Mr Banks. During the evening, Mr P. V. Bailey presented prizes to members of the Sunshine Club, who had gained most points in club competitions during the year. GIFT PARTY Miss Leonie Hamilton, whose marriage will take place -shortly, was the guest of honour at a gift party held at the home of-Mrs Hamilton, Omihi. The time passed pleasantly with games and competitions, the winners being Miss Hamilton. Mrs D. Little, Miss D. Sloss, and Mr R. Sloss. Songs were sung by Mrs J. Harris, and Mr O. Foster. Many gifts for her future home were presented to Miss Hamilton.
