Idlealong championship, and Cornwell Cup contests, to be sailed on Wellington bar- . hour beginning on January 15. have already been received, according to advice sent to the Wellington Provincial Vacht and Motor Boat Association. They are: Sanders Cup: Canterbury. Otago, Wellington. _. _ m-., Idlealong championship: Otago, lau ranga, Wellington. Cornwell Cup: Manukau. Otago, Auckland, Wellington. By the time, entries close it is expected that the number received for ■ the ttiree everts will equal if not exceed the totals of previous years. Entries for the Sanders Cup have to be forwarded to the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Association’ (last year's winners). Tauranga Won the Idlealong championship last year; but entries will be received by the Wellington Yacht and Motor Boat Association, which will also take entries for the Cornwell Cup. which it won last year. It is possible that the Sanders cup contest this year will be decided on a points system. Instead of the three-wins system, which has been in use since the contest was started in 1921. The points system proposed is that of tire New South Wales 18-Footers’ Sailing League. The first boat to finish scores 255 points, the second boat one less than half this total, or 127. the third boat 63, the fourth boat 31, the fifth 15, the sixth 7. the seventh 3, and the eighth 1. Under this system a boat which has three wins cannot be beaten by any other combination of places in five races. A new New Zealand championship sailing event will be instituted this year. Mrs L. B. Mel Us hj, through the Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club, has given a cup for a Tauranga class championship, and this will be sailed at the .same time as the other championships. Each provincial district will be entitled to one entrant, and the contest will be sailed on a points system. Five races will be held, though a sixth will be sailed if necessary.
