MR ARMSTRONG AT TE AROHA
VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN GOVERNMENT > TE AROHA, June 9. The Minister for Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) addressed a public meeting last evening. Mr Armstrong said the latest figures showed that 89,000 more persons were now in full work than when the Government took office. They had been asked why the employment promotion tax of 8d in the £1 had not been taken off.
That, he said, would be deemed an election stunt, which they would not make.
He claimed that the guaranteed price was economically sound, dairy farmers’ incomes being increased from £2 5s a week in 1935 to £5 15s in 1937. This year it would be further increased.
A vete of confidence -in the Government, and appreciation of its humanitarian legislation, was passed unanimously. and musical honours were accorded the speaker.
