NEW BOWLING CLUB

OFFICERS APPOINTED AT WESTPORT

MR G. MITCHELL FIRST PRESIDENT

A gift of £ls from Mr W. T. Slee (Westport) towards the green fund was gratefully acknowledged at the first annual meeting of members of the newly-formed Westport Returned Soldiers’ Association Bowling Club.

Mr F. Morgan (chairman) said that three sections in Queen street had been purchased from Mr H. Nahr for conversion into a green. He considered, however, that only two sections would be required in the meantime, and later, if necessary, the third could be developed. Mr Morgan said the new green would be available for play at Christmas. Officers were elected as follows: — Patron, Mr W. T. Slee; president, Mr G. G. M. Mitchell; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Borlase, F. Beirne, J. Huddlestone, and J. Brown; honorary treasurer, Mr G. D. Campbell; honorary secretary, Mr D. Cunningham; committee. Messrs A. Anderson, W. Fleming. J. Watson, F. Morgan, A. J. Green, E. Trainer, and R. McGregor; grounds committee, Messrs Beirne, Cunningham, and Morgan; match committee, Messrs Trainer, A. Burt, and Anderson; social committee, Messrs Borlase, G. Jones. CONTROL OF M<LEAN PARK REQUEST TO GREYMOUTH LOCAL BODIES Representatives of the Blaketown Citizens’ Association met the members of the Greymouth Harbour Board and Borough Council during the visit of the board and council to Blaketown. The representatives requested that McLean park be handed over to the Borough Council as a playing area. Mr J. Ryall. chairman of the Harbour Board, said that the board had suggested some time ago that the council should take over the area. The Mayor (Mr F. A. Kitchingham) said that he could not pledge the council to expenditure on the park, and Cr. E. F. Boustridge suggested that the board put the park in order and then hand over its control to the council. The Harbour Board members promised to give the matter their further consideration.

ASSESSMENT COURT AT GREYMOUTH ONLY ONE CASE HEARD

A sitting of the Assessment Court was held at Greymouth yesterday before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., one case being dealt with. . _ An objection was raised by Mr A. A. Stewart to his name being entered on the roll on the ground that sections 86 87. 88, and 89. Cobden S.D.. were oh the hillside and did not need protection. Mr Stewart withdrew his objection so far as sections 88 and 89 were concerned. Mr W. D. Taylor, for the Greymouth County Council, said he was instructed to ask that sections 86 and 87 be excluded from the special rating roll. That would conclude the matter, as sections 88 and 89 did not now belong to Stewart. The Magistrate said that this arrangement would meet the objection. On the application of Mr Taylor the Magistrate amended the roll by deleting f-*e word “valuation” in the last column of the roll and substituting the words “rateable value” to make the roll comply with the regulations.
