ROMANCE AGAINST ODDS
“Laughing Irish Eyes ” starring Phil Regan, with a new Irish comedian, Walter ’C. Kelly, a vaudeville veteran, and Evelyn Knapp, begins to-day at the Plaza with “Sensation.” In the idyllic setting of Ireland s green hills and lovely country lanes, Regan is presented as an athletic young blacksmith who sings as he pounds his anvil. Kelly, an American prize-fighter promoter, and his daughter, pick Regan for their choice—but both for . different reasons. Such old Irish, favourites as “Londonderry Air,” “Bless You, Darlin’, Mother, 7 and “All My Life,” not forgetting the theme song, “Laughing Irish Eyes,” are sung by Regan, and poured into the heart of the spirited and adorable Irish lass. Singing is not only Phil Regan’s artistic .vocation, but his hobby as well. He; began it when he was a boy. He was the leading tenor of his high school glee. club.. When he was hardly out of his ’teens his public singing in New York launched him on a national broadcasting career, • which made his voice known and loved by millions. ....... “Sensation” presents the inside story of a murder hunt—Fleet street versus Scotland Yard, with a ruthless newspaper reporter, known ,as “Lone Wolf Heaton,” exposing- a defenceless woman’s most precious secrets to provide front-page news for a sensationloving public. , , Perfectly cast in the starring role is John Lodge, as the- unscrupulous Pat Heaton, the crime reporter of the famous “Murder Gang.” Lodge’s versatility has been proved in the many and varied roles that have'come his waiy. He was captain of the hussars with Marlene Dietrich in “The Scarlet Empress,"-inspector of police with
“Laughing Irish Eyes” and “Sensation”
Antoinette ; Cellier in “Ourselves Alone” —genius* financier, again with Antoinette Cellier, in “The Tenth Man.” .
