ARRESTS IN ROME
COMMUNIST ACTIVITY DENIED
(Received September 11, 8.16 p.m.)
HOME, September 11
The Ministry for Propaganda categorically denied the reported existence of a communist organisation.
The Rome correspondent of the “Daily Mail,” however, says that it is admitted that arrests were made recently by the secret police, who have considerably increased their vigilance owing, to the spread of Bolshevik propaganda. An earlier message said: The correspondent of the British United Press in Rome says that the police have unmasked a powerful communist organisation with headquarters in Rome and branches in a number of towns.
The police seized detailed membership lists, large sums of money, and thousands of leaflets. It is understood that the ringleaders, some of whom are understood to be high officers of the Fascist party, have been arrested and imprisoned, in addition to scores of their followers.
