BETTY AT THE PARTY

It was a nice summer day, and the sun was shining brightly when a little girl named Betty ran out into the meadow to look at the little fairies in her .picture book. Soon Betty, became tired and fell asleep. Then, suddenly, out of a little mushroom hopped a fairy.

Betty was silent for a moment, then she said, “What is your name?” “Twinkletoes,” cried the fairy in a fairylike voice. “I have come to invite you to our tea party in the woods in an hour's time. I have also come to invite my friends Merry bell, Greenleaf, Llghtfeet, Tinkletop, pink Toes, Cherry, Blue Wings, Sunshine and Forget-me-not who live in the next meadow.” Betty ran off to the woods where the fairies' party was to be held. They drank dew out of acorn cups and ate cherries and cream out of lilies. As the time passed, Greenleaf played on his little green, harp, while the fairies danced. When the party was over, Betty skipped home. In a little while she wakened and cried, “Where am 1? Oh! it was only a dream,” she exclaimed. —JEAN MORRISON (aged 9),
