RIVER PROTECTION
WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD’S WORKS EMBANKMENT NEARLY FINISHED River protection work done by the Waimakariri Harbour Board along the board’s reserves facing Charles street, below the wharf, is nearing completion. To guard against extra high tides the embankment is bein'* raised at the lower end. A footbridge has been built over the drain at Jones street, and an additional bridge has beep constructed in line with the embankment at Beswick street. The straightening of the south bank down from the main bridge to the turning basin is to be begun when the tides are suitable, and when this work is finished to conform with the north bank a great improvement will be effected.
