DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE

. * INQUEST ON TOBACCONIST A verdict of death from heart failure, caused by degeneration of the blood vessels of the heart, was returned yesterday by the coroner, Mr E. C. Lewey, in an inquest into the death of Albert Grundy, who collapsed in his tobacconist’s shop, 302 Selwyh street, on July 17. The verdict was in accordance with medical evidence given by Dr. A. B. Pearson, pathologist at the public hospital, who made a post-mortem examination. David Henry Joseph said that he was standing outside Grundy’s shop when he heard a thud. Later Mrs Grundy asked him to come inside. He did so, and gave assistance, telephoning for Dr, Bates. He had purchased goods from Grundy, who never at any time complained that he was ill. ■ Frank Le Blanc Newbery, a neighbour, said that he had been called to the house at the time of Grundy’s collapse. He had known Grundy for some years, and he had never complained of illness. Alice Grundy said that her husband had been treated by Dr. Bates for stomach trouble. He was a man who suffered without complaining.
