PAPANUI SUB-BRANCH Mrs L. M. Wilson presided at the monthly committee meeting of the Papanui sub-branch of the Plunket Society. Other members present were Mesdames R. J. Lyon, G. H. Crawford, G. Holder. R. H. Livingstone, R. B. Ward, F. B. Wright, P. S. Mann. Eric Beaven, F. Armstrong, Vernon Mathews, H. Wyatt, L. C. Sisson, and Miss M. Bain. Nurse Merton reported that 163 adults. 156 babies, and 23 pre-school children had visited the Papanui rooms during the month. There had been two new ccscs. A vote of thanks; was yu.,?ed to the Waimairi County Council for its generous* donation, and gratituda was also expressed to Mr Bayliss, jun., for pruning the rose trees round the Plunket rooms. A letter was received from the secretary of the Christchurch branch asking the committee for two collectors on Plunket Day. Members also premised to assist Mrs Bunz at the Women's Club at the end of this month. Support was asked for the Karitane nurses' stall to be held in Victoria square to-morrow. A competition for the best knitted frock for a child was won by Mrs A. Bond. Donations aod subscriptions were gratefully received as follows:—Karitane appeal, Mesdames A. K. Warren. Eric Diehl. R. B. Robilliard, H. Searle. R. G. Mardon, J. W. Cottier, Eric Beaven, and Miss M. Sidey. BIRTHDAY PARTY Captain and Mrs Freeman-Greene (Merivale) entertained friends of their son David on the occasion of his seventh birthday anniversary. Among those present were Masters Sandy Denniston, Neale Mason, John Blackler, David Granger, and Robin Davidson. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT AND DANCE More than 130 guests attended the Shirley School euchre tournament and dance, held on Saturday evening. Dance music was provided by Morris Adcock's orchestra and Mr S. H. Clothier was master of ceremonies. The prizes Were won as follows: Monte Carlo, Miss Gwen Davis and Mr Heatley, competition dance, Mr and Mrs Aitchison; euchre, Miss Tunnicliffe, Mrs Kefslake, Messrs Woodward and Rowe. PLUM PUDDINGS 6d and 1/-. A much favoured specialty provided by Ernest Adams, Ltd., who are selling Plum Puddings already prepared and cooked and which only require boiling or steaming before serving. The great success of these Puddings which were originally introduced as a Christmas line, but now have a yearround sale, is accounted for by thp excellence of the ingredients.
