"Can a Sunday municipal organ recital be classed as a concert?" was the conundrum Ci\ M. Silverstone asked at a meeting of the Dunedin City Council. The adoption of the finance committee's report had been moved by Ci\ J. B. Shaddock, and ihc motion was about to be carried when Cr. Silverstone put his Question. The council, lie said, had recently passed a regulation forbidding Sunday concerts, and yet a municipal organ recital had been held on a Sunday after the ban was brought into force. Had a permit been issued, or was it that the council could make a resolution and then ignore it? Cr. Shaddock said it was doubtful if the recital could be classed as a concert. Permits, or, perhaps, instructions, had beer. given to Dr. Galway to aive a series of recitals at, stated periods. but he did not think that any councillor, when the question of Sunday concerts was discussed, thought that the decision to refuse permission had anything to do with organ recitals. "They are concerts all right," was Cr. Silverstone's final contribution to the argument.
